Our mission is to support children’s play
We believe that children’s play is both a sign and catalyst for healthier individuals, families and communities. A person’s best memories are often the most simple – a muddy puddle, a tree for climbing, a box fort with friends. We help adults create pop-up adventure playgrounds and playwork events that give children the opportunity to have amazing play experiences.
This is achieved by applying principles of the UK-based field of playwork for schools, neighbourhoods, museums, an adventure play pop up park and anywhere else where children can be found. This includes playwork training, resources and ongoing support for play advocates and child professionals. We weave playwork ethics and practices through all of our work, building relationships with children, colleagues and communities.
Start small, start now, keep going. Let’s change the world together. Join us in the movement to create a more playful world!

Play Free VT: The Joy of Post
On one memorable occasion, I wrote to a friend by candlelight on the 2nd day of a three-day power failure in my neighbourhood. I can’t actually think of an occasion where letter writing isn’t appropriate, so I’m going to keep on doing it!
Play Free VT: Chainsaws!
“The exclamation point is on purpose, as are the bubble letters on that banner. That’s because Chris Olsen, workshop leader, wants to make chainsaw skills and confidence far more accessible to anyone who didn’t see a place for themselves in what can be a bro-heavy culture.”
Shortlisted! – Playwork Awards 2023
Whether we receive an award or not, we at Pop-Up Adventure Play will keep on making sure that — no matter the difference — we are altogether in playwork.
At Pop-Up Adventure Play, we can help with registering or hosting your very own children’s adventure playground or playwork event! We have a team of dedicated professionals who are passionate about children’s play and adventure and we would love to help you create something special for the children in your community.
Whether you’re looking to set up a one-off pop up play event or something more permanent, we can provide advice and support on every aspect of children’s pop-up adventure playgrounds and playwork, from risk assessment to equipment sourcing. We can also help connect you with other like-minded individuals and organisations who are working to create amazing play experiences for children.
We also provide playwork training for those who want to learn more about how to create and facilitate children’s play. This training is perfect for anyone who works with children, such as teachers, childcare workers and youth workers. If you’re interested in setting up a children’s adventure playground or playwork event in a play pop up park or outdoor environment, please get in touch. Email suzanna@popupadventureplay.org with any enquiries!
What a totally brilliant event today in St Mary’s Park. The creativity, concentration and enthusiasm from everyone there was awesome to witness. Thanks for being part of Prestwich Arts Festival 2018!
